Background & Research
Background & Research
An entrepreneur owned a single-floor house and shop in Parakan, Temanggung. He wanted to build a comfortable second-floor home for his family, specifically requesting a Scandinavian design, which is still rare in the area. Unfortunately, the existing ground floor roof slab had an elevation difference of about one meter between the front and back sections.

Design & Development
I leveraged this elevation difference to create a split-level interior design. By combining the triangular roof typical of Scandinavian design with a minimalist concept, I added a curved wall shape on the facade to create a unique design unseen in the area. The slanted ceilings, following the triangular roof, greatly aid ventilation and make the house feel more spacious and grand, making it very comfortable for the occupants. The windows at the back are a direct response to the natural potential of the area: the stunning views of Mount Sumbing and Sindoro, making the house not just comfortable but truly beautiful to experience.

The architectural details highlight an engaging massing composition, merging an iconic, high pitched roof form with geometric elements like white blocks and exposed brick walls in the lower area. Inside, the design leverages a double-height void in the living room, enhanced by vertical timber fins acting as a soft visual divider leading to the staircase and mezzanine, while dark marble flooring adds an elegant and contrasting feel.
